Dr Hugh M-P

Portrait of Officers of 128th Australian General Hospital, Port Moresby, Papua, in 1944. Captain Hugh Murray-Prior is in the middle row, 4th from right.

In 1952, Hugh was Medical Superintendent, succeeding the talented Dr Reg Hamlin. The next photo shows him in 1952 when he was Medical Superintendent at Crown Street Women's Hospital (Surry Hills, Sydney). He is in the middle of the front row, with Pathologist J. Murray Moyes third from the left and resident medical officers. While at Crown Street, he (with Drs Bob Macbeth and Peter Crowe) collaborated with Dr Hamlin to substantially reduce neonatal mortality after prolapse of the umbilical cord.
